NAGPUR: Seven Star Hospital, Jagnade Square, has launched a unique home-based care service for the geriatric (elderly) patients and those recuperating after surgeries or other ailments. This is being done for nuclear families in which parents are either living alone or their wards do not have enough time to attend to them.Specialists from all fields like orthopaedics, neurology, general physicians, urologists, ENT etc will be visiting patients’ homes and rendering services at the same cost as when patients are hospitalized.
Dr Prashant Rahate, surgeon and one of the directors of the hospital, said today people usually work long hours. “They do not have time to take parents to hospital and spend almost a day by taking leave from their job. Some parents are living alone as children are in other cities. Our home-based care is a big relief to such families and they do not mind spending on this,” he said.
The hospital will also be providing opportunity for elderly people who are not mobile to celebrate festivals with hospital staff. “This will give them a sense of well-being and lift morale. This service will be round-the-clock. Unlike government hospitals, we will give all services at home to patients of fractures, disabilities etc,” said Dr Rahate.
Dr Sadashiv Bhole, urologist and another director, said the hospital will help patients create support groups for each other. They will have meeting where they can share their journey to cure or rehabilitation. “If a knee joint replacement patient shares his experience of exercises etc with others they get confidence in themselves and do better than when they just follow doctors’ instructions,” he said.
Dr Pravin Nikhade, chief operating officer, said these services will come at no extra cost. All geriatric care will be given at the home through specialists. “It will save time for the family as well as reach good care to the needy,” he added.
Seven Star home care has designated trained professionals to provide the services. These include nursing care, day care assistants, doctors for consultation, physiotherapy and ambulance services. Dr Nikhade said many services like monitoring blood sugar, blood pressure, change of dressing etc could not be done without expert technician. Traffic congestions are also a big deal in transferring patients to hospital. This service can be the answer, he added.
